Below is a brief explaination of each of the topics year 12 participants will be asked to run a session for the lower years during their enrichment sessions. You need to choose one in form on the school network, and present it with a group of up to three others. We recommend looking at the way St Johns Ambulance teaches many of these topics and some links are provide below, or can be looked up here.
I have no idea
Select this option is you simply do not mind what you teach or have not no idea of what to do. An option and group will be selected for you.
Emergency Protocols
Select this option to present a session on the initial actions when faced with an emergency. Dangers, checking for responses, calling for help, checking for breathing and when to to do CPR.
Recovery position
This session teaches the recovery position for an unconscious casualty, and discusses other good positions to help someone into if they are unwell.
CPR Resuscitation
After revising the chetcks for breathing and calling for help, This session goes through how to do CPR using manikins. How o use the inflatable Mini Anne manakins can be studied here.
AED Defibrillator
After a brief revision of DRABC and this session shows how to use a defibrillator and then revises CPR.
Choking
Those teaching this session will demonstrate how to recognise and then what to do for a choking adult and baby.
Seizures
This session discusses and demonstrates what actions can taken if someone is having a seizure.
Catastrophic bleeds and shock
This session trains participants how to manage a vey bad bleed and subsequent blood loss.
Heart attack
How to recognise and then treat someone before their heart stops, basic heart anatomy and other heart conditions.
Burns
This session teaches the six different types of burns and how to treat them.
Bumps, bruise and breaks
This session can be spit up into more sessions, but covers how to deal with bumps, breaks, bruises, strains and sprains
